Laying the foundation

Chiropractic care is like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care: Relief Care, Corrective Care, and Wellness Care. As with everything we do, every patient will have an individualized care plan specific to his or her needs.

Phase 1: Relief Care

Unfortunately, and more often than we'd like, a lot of our patients come to us because they are in pain. If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. Depending on how bad the pain is, this care can last anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks. There is no set protocol in place. The doctors will meet with each patient and after review of their case come up with a personalized plan that best suits each person's individual needs.

Phase 2: Corrective Care

Muscle and other soft tissue damage often remain after our original symptoms have improved. During the corrective care phase, muscle and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury. Again, the amount of time spent in corrective care is different for each patient and will be customized to his or her needs. Some of the easiest cases Dr. Donovan and Dr. White have seen require visits twice a week for 2 weeks. some of the most severe, including failed post surgical patients have required 16 weeks of corrective care with visits 2-3 times per week. On average, corrective care can last anywhere from 8-10 weeks with 2 or 3 visits per week. Your needs will be evaluated when your care plan is created.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

When maximum improvement is reached, periodic "checkups" are recommended, similar to your routine dental visits. Similar to a dental exam, problems can be detected and corrected before they become an issue. Our long-term wellness goal for our patients is only a handful of visits a year. Anywhere from 3 to 6 visits a year is typical, again, based on a patient's individual need. Remember, wellness care can save time and money by helping you stay well!

Testimonial

The treatment went so well that I decided to get myself and my 2 year old daughter examined too. This is a life changing experience. I plan on having routine checkups for my whole family. I would recommend Atlantic Spinal Rehab and their care for babies, toddlers, teens and adults.
